The Saratoga County Rural Preservation company was designated a 501(c)(3) and began its first day of operation in January 1983. Its mission is to maintain, improve, rehabilitate, and develop affordable housing in Saratoga County. A further mission is to provide sober, safe and supportive housing in both our transitional facility and permanent housing.

Saratoga RPC provides transitional housing and support services to homeless female veterans at Guardian House and male veterans at Vet House. Permanent Housing for Veterans is also available in our Cur A Hee 12 unit apartment program and 2 unit apartment program for families and individual veterans with a disability.

Through the Support Services for Veterans and Families, veterans and their families are offered support services and temporary financial assistance to help prevent eviction, or to rapidly rehouse them if evicted.

Saratoga RPC is the Section 8 PHA for Saratoga County and the Town of Wilton.

They also are the property manager for a 40 unit affordable housing program in Saratoga.

In addition, they are the administrators of the Nursing Home Transition and Diversion Program.

Shelters of Saratoga (SOS)'s mission, as a Neighborhood Preservation Company, is to provide or arrange permanent access to affordable housing for income eligible residents of the service area as well as transitional housing for previously homeless men and women who have secured employment or other resources of income during their temporary residence in the SOS homeless shelter.
 
Shelters of Saratoga, through the provision of housing, services, referral, information and advocacy, strives to ensure that individuals and families in the greater Saratoga region who are homeless or at risk of homelessness have safe, affordable and secure places to live.
 
SOS operates an emergency homeless shelter, 33 beds, that serves Saratoga County and surrounding areas. The emergency shelter offers client counseling, advocacy and referral services. Through the use of case management and individual service plans, they offer long-term follow up care, life skills training, job counseling and a number of other services, all designed to foster independent living.
 
In addition,  SOS has developed and manages two residential properties that contain seven low-income senior apartments. SOS also provides to youth and families who are in temporary housing and at risk of becoming temporarily or chronically homeless. Mobile Outreach services that are designed to help these populations maintain a decent living experience while seeking affordable permanent housing.  SOS also operates a drop-in center two days a week where individuals can come in and shower, have lunch, take food with them for future meals, do laundry and most importantly receive case management with the ultimate goal of connecting them with vital support services they may require.

What is a weatherization assistance provider?

Weatherization assistance providers can assist eligible homeowners and owners of rental properties with measures to improve energy efficiency, including:

  • an energy audit of the home to identify specific needs;
  • addition of insulation to walls or ceilings;
  • weather-stripping and caulking around doors and windows;
  • cleaning, testing, repairs, or replacement of heating systems;
  • replacement or repair of broken windows and/or outside doors;
  • mitigation of health and safety concerns; in particular assuring that all dwelling units receive smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Weatherization Services may also include other energy-related improvements such as: water heater repair/replacement, lighting fixture replacement, venting systems, refrigerator replacement, and certain electrical service work.

Weatherization services are available to income-eligible (60% of State median income) individuals who may be either homeowners or renters living in a single-family home, a manufactured/mobile home, or an apartment.
