The Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (TRIP) is a community development corporation started in 1968 engaged in a variety of programs intended to enhance the quality of life in Troy's neighborhoods. A mainstay of TRIP's work since its inception has been the development and promotion of home ownership opportunities. In furtherance of that goal TRIP operates a chartered NeighborWorks Home Ownership Center. The Center provides a "one stop shop" through which current and prospective home owners can access any of a number of resources available in the City to promote the acquisition and retention of owner occupied housing. The Center offers extensive pre- and post-purchase education, down payment and closing cost assistance, and home repair/improvement technical assistance and financing.
TRIP also purchases and rehabilitates blighted and abandoned buildings for sale to owner occupants. In addition, TRIP manages a sizable inventory of affordable rental units developed under a variety of federal and state programs over the past three decades. A number of these apartments have project based Section 8 rental assistance.
TRIP is also actively engaged in community empowerment. Working within a "Leadership Development" construct, TRIP staff works with hundreds of individuals each year promoting, encouraging and supporting their civic engagement within their community. TRIP brings public and private resources to bear without establishing or supporting unnecessary dependencies. The mission of TRIP is carried out in a manner which enhances the capacities of community members and allows for opportunities for growth.
